Fill in a Japanese address from its postcode at WooCommerce checkout, with Japan Post data that ships with the plugin. No API key, no external calls.

Hera Japan Postcode Autofill is for any WooCommerce store that ships to Japan, whatever language the store itself uses. A Japanese postcode settles most of the address that follows it, so the customer types seven digits and checks the result instead of typing the address out.

What it does

  • Once the seven digits of the postcode are in, it fills in the prefecture, the city and the district. The customer adds the block and building numbers.
  • Works on the Checkout block, the classic checkout and the address form under My account → Addresses, for billing and shipping addresses alike.
  • Never overwrites a street address the customer typed. When the postcode changes, the prefecture and city follow it, and what the plugin filled in is cleared again if the postcode is no longer complete.
  • Accepts full-width digits such as 100-0001 and rewrites them as 100-0001, the form WooCommerce accepts.
  • Fills in only what the postcode settles. A postcode shared by several districts leaves the street address empty, and one shared by two cities leaves the city empty, instead of guessing.
  • Covers Japan Post’s postcodes for addresses and for single large businesses. A business postcode fills in the street number as well.
  • Tells screen reader users when it has filled in an address.

What it leaves out

  • It makes no external connections and needs no API key. The postcode data ships with the plugin and the browser loads it from your own site, so nothing is sent to Japan Post or any other service.
  • There is nothing to configure: no settings screen and no database tables. The plugin stores nothing.
  • Addresses in other countries work as before.
  • Addresses are filled in in Japanese, the way Japan Post publishes them.

Japan Post states that it does not claim copyright on its postcode data. Each version of the plugin carries one release of that data, named in its changelog, so updating the plugin brings newer postcodes.
