Changing a commission rate

When you change a rate, the plugin recalculates the orders it has recorded, so the reports always show the rate in force. This article explains what is recalculated, what is not, and which other settings change past figures.

What a change recalculates

You change Orders recalculated
Default rate or a Calculated on box, in the settings Every order that has not been paid for yet, as soon as you save.
Commission or Commission rate on a coupon’s Affiliate tab That coupon’s orders that have not been paid for yet, as soon as you update the coupon.
Track commission Nothing. It only shows or hides commission.

The recalculation covers orders of any date, so an order placed last year that has not been paid for follows the new rate too.

Orders already paid for

An order covered by a recorded payment keeps the affiliate, the rate and the base it was paid on. A later rate change, or the coupon moving to another affiliate, does not touch it.

What can still change is the order itself. If a paid order is refunded or cancelled later, its commission falls, and the difference appears on the affiliate’s next statement. See When a paid order changes.

Status settings apply to all orders

The Order outcomes settings, which statuses count as confirmed, cancelled or refunded, and the cash on delivery box, are applied whenever a report is read. A change there applies to every order at once, paid orders included, and can add adjustment lines to affiliates’ statements. Settle these settings before you record your first payment.

Coupons edited somewhere else

The recalculation runs when a coupon is updated on its own edit screen. If you change coupons another way, such as a bulk edit or an import, click Sync affiliates from coupons under Affiliate Reports → Settings afterwards. See The report index.
