One affiliate with several coupons
One person can hold several coupons, for example one per campaign or one per platform. This article explains how the plugin decides which coupons belong to the same affiliate.
How coupons are grouped
- Coupons with the same Affiliate email belong to one affiliate, whatever their names say.
- Coupons with no email are grouped by Affiliate name.
- Capital letters and spaces at either end make no difference: “Jane Doe” and “jane doe” are the same affiliate.
So to count several coupons as one person, give all of them the same email address. A name alone works too, as long as none of that person’s coupons has an email.
Warning: A coupon with a name and no email, and a coupon with the same name and an email, count as two affiliates. Give every coupon of the person the same email address, or none of them.
If coupons that share an email carry different names, the reports show one of those names. Keep the names the same to avoid confusion.
Where the grouping shows
- The Affiliates report adds up all of an affiliate’s coupons in one row, with the number of their coupons used in the period. See The Affiliates report.
- The Coupons report keeps one row per coupon, so you can compare the coupons of one affiliate. See The Coupons report.
- Commission, balances and payments are per affiliate: one statement covers all of their coupons.
- Each coupon keeps its own commission rate and its own Email the affiliate box.
When the grouping changes
If you add or change the email address on one of the coupons, its orders move to the new grouping, except orders already paid for, which stay with the affiliate record that was paid. The same person can then appear twice on the Payouts screen. See Merging two records of one affiliate.
